Why Focus on Reproductive Health?
Family planning is a right. It also saves lives and gives women the time, health and energy to care for their families, stay in school, get a job or start a business. Yet millions of women still lack access to modern contraception and reproductive health care. We work tirelessly to ensure that all women and men get the care they need to build their futures.
In 2018, Jhpiego supported the governments of 12 low- to middle-income countries to save the lives of an estimated 81,000 children and 9,000 women through improved contraceptive services.

In a savory division of labor, Reena Gouda, 24, mixes the murki batter while her husband, Kunna, fries the delicious snacks. Together, they package a mountain of the scrumptious cheese treat, the sales of which make a steady income for their family, which recently expanded to four.
How We Make an Impact
Information is a vital piece of any family planning program. We develop and put into practice tools and techniques to make information about contraception and reproductive health accessible—from building health care workers’ counseling skills to designing tools that explain how contraceptives work in the body. We use an array of communication channels, including mobile, to get this information to the people who need it.
We support health care workers to provide high-quality, respectful reproductive care. We train them on a wide range of methods, from lactational amenorrhea, which reduces fertility while ensuring that newborns’ nutritional needs are met, to long-acting reversible methods, such as implants and intrauterine devices.
We work with governments and other partners to build systems and structures that ensure access to high-quality family planning and reproductive health services. We help ensure that service delivery points have the trained staff and supplies to offer a range of services, including integrated HIV/AIDS services, and that policymakers have up-to-date, accurate information.
Technical approach to family planning & reproductive health
Jhpiego’s goal is to ensure that all individuals’ sexual and reproductive health and rights are respected, protected and fulfilled. To achieve this vision, Jhpiego follows a multipronged approach: address the knowledge, attitudes, behavior and social norms surrounding family planning and reproductive health; optimize organization and delivery of family planning and reproductive health services; and create an environment that supports provision and continued use of these services. Our initiatives and efforts aim to overcome barriers to access and bend the curve toward ensuring high-quality, safe and effective family planning and reproductive health services for all.Learn more
